week of learning

I'll get back to my usual format next week, but I just want to highlight something I love about homeschooling. 

I'm sure this happens with other kids too, but homeschooling gives more time and space for this kind of interest, learning, discovering, unfolding.  What kind?  Well, a completely self-directed unprompted burst of  exploration. 

For example, this week I found this, something A did during some "down time" -

She's been looking through every animal book she can get her hands on this week, noting differences, habitat location, and drawing a lot of the creatures.
